Sometime last month I saw a news on Macworld magazine about the arrival of Steam on Mac. At that time, the only thing that attracted me was the idea of having Valve’s top tier game available in Mac via Steam. Little did I realize that few weeks after that, I’ve put hours of gameplay in two games released in Steam: Torchlight and Half-Life 2.
Now, for those uninitiated like me then, Steam is something like iTunes Store, with the difference that Steam offer games - demo or full - as well as social feature on it. There are many top-tier game publisher that offers their game to be purchase on Steam, such as Electronic Arts, Activision, 2K Games, Ubisoft, THQ, Sega, Codemasters, id Software, LucasArts, Capcom, Rockstar Games and Bethesda Softworks.
When using Steam to purchase the game, what happen is that we download the game digitally, and then we’ll able to play it. No need to purchase the box or anything physically. One thing that we must have is a stable, high bandwidth, internet connection, which could be a hard things to find in Jakarta. FirstMedia and Telkom Speedy is a bit better now although still not as reliable as I would hope for.

One thing that I really like with the arrival of Steam is that getting a game for Mac has become much more easier. There shouldn’t be any more excuse that there are no games in Mac, or a Mac can’t play games.
The first game I download was Torchlight and boy, it’s one of the best purchase I’ve ever made. Currently I have several games and if they have more special offer, I guess I’ll keep buying
